INTRODUCTION

The Winter Rally School offers courses for rally-drivers who want to improve their results nationally or internationally and also to the average driver looking for an experience. John was a works driver for Skoda in International Rallying from 1971 to 1990. Driving a car with little power taught him to pay attention to all details. From 1991 he established his consultancy, using his experience and contacts. The Winter Rally School is the main activity for the winter.

Top drivers such as Richard Burns, Alister McRae, Henrik Lundgaard, Raphael Sperrer, Armin Kremer, Martin Rowe, Mark and David Higgins, Neil Wearden, Neil Simpson, Martin Stenshorne, Emma Gilmore, Guy Wilks, Stuart Jones, Shaun Gallager, Andrew Nesbitt, Rory Galligan, Ryan Champion and Luke Pinder are just a few of those who have been practicing on the tracks on our frozen lakes.

More than 70 Championships have been won by drivers after they have been to the school. Almost 1000 drivers have been taken part in our training courses since the opening.

ONE OF THE SCANDINAVIAN RALLY DRIVERS SECRET behind their success, is the possibility to train on frozen lakes early in their development as drivers. On the lakes you can drive hard and find your limits without doing much damage. By overdriving, you learn car control. Instructor, John Haugland works with each driver in the car, sitting beside observing, and working together to improve details. Normally improvements are found in braking, entry of corners and lines. Smoothness and an efficient driving style is also important. This is also the ideal way to learn and practice left foot braking. The course uses snow and ice as a means to make you fast and safe on all surfaces including gravel and tarmac.

This program is one of the most exclusive programs to the winter seasons of Norway. It is available only from November to April and the seats are booked out sometimes months in advanced. So if you're interested to experience this the sideway action of a rally car on ice, you have to be sure to book early. You will be in the hands of one of the most accomplished Rally Drivers in Europe with huge experience in Racing and coaching.

To drive the rally car on a frozen lake is the best possible way to learn car-control. Car-control is the basic for being safe and fast. The driver can drive on and over the limit and make mistakes without damaging the car, as there are large run-off areas or soft snow-banks to hit. When the driver has car-control, we start to drive efficient and fast.

Upon arriving on Sunday, we'll prepare your cars and fitting Rally spiked tires to ensure high grip on the icy track.

Driving starts on frozen lake race track before 10.00 Monday and Tuesday. All cars can drive on the track, instructors alternate from car to car.

Lunch is served in caravan at track. And more rally driving continues all the way till 4.30pm.

After that you return back to Geilo and the cars are put in the workshop for preparation for the next day. Wednesday and Thursday is dedicated driving special-stages. This is the part where you put your rally lessons to the real test in this rally style simulator.

Wednesday: Pace-notes.
Thursday: Personal preparation.

The race-track is 3 km long, and we have 4 different special-stages, where we start, drive to a turning-point and drive back to the start, one car at a time.
